The chairman was born to Colm and Maureen Kelleher on May 30, 1957, in the Irish village of Bandon and held Irish citizenship. As of 2023, he is 65 years old. He has eight siblings: Declan, Finbar, Niamh, Diarmuid, Ronan, Ciaran, Aidan, and Rory Kelleher.
He is an Institute of Chartered Accountants student with an Oxford University MA in modern history. Mr. Kelleher completed his business studies at Dublin’s Trinity College.
After earning his M.A. in history from Oxford University, the businessman worked at Arthur Andersen & Co. to become a certified public accountant.
He holds positions on the boards of Norfolk Southern, Americans for Oxford, the Oxford Vice-Circle, the Chancellor’s, and the British Museum Advisory Board. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
From February 2006 to October 2007, he was the head of global capital markets. He began working with Morgan Stanley in 1989, and in 1996 he was chosen to be its managing director.
He has worked for Morgan Stanley for over 25 years and has substantial experience in the capital and securities markets. He has experience working in the United States, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
The former CEO of Morgan Stanley International served as the company’s chief financial officer and co-head of corporate strategy from October 2007 to December 2009.
Overseeing the capital and liquidity of the company through a time of significant market upheaval and assisting in guiding the company through the financial crisis.
He was appointed the organization’s president in 2016 and assumed leadership of the institutional securities and wealth management businesses. Until retiring in 2019, he held the role for three years.
Colm has been the chairman of the Swiss financial services company UBS Group AG since April 2022. Also, he holds the position of director on the Norfolk Southern Committee. He serves on the boards of many different organizations.
Also, Colm is active in charitable activities. He generated $300,000 for Student Sponsor Partners, a New York-based nonprofit that provides financial aid and mentoring to underprivileged students.
Mr. Kelleher was in charge of Morgan Stanley’s operations outside the U.S… and the firm’s institutional securities business globally while serving as President of Morgan Stanley Institutional Securities and CEO of Morgan Stanley International.
